The 2011 Washburn University and Brown Foundation Oliver L. Brown Distinguished Visiting Scholar for Diversity Issues, welcomes Washington Post correspondent Michael A. Fletcher and national editor Kevin Merida for a presentation about their book Supreme Discomfort: The Divided Soul of Clarence Thomas, published by Double Day in 2007. This book was featured on the cover of the New York Times Book Review and was awarded the nonfiction prize at the inaugural Essence Literary Awards competition.

Since 1995 Fletcher has been with the Washington Post and is now a national correspondent.

Merida is national editor of the Washington Post, with a staff of 75, covering Congress, the White House, national politics, national security and a myriad of other issues affecting the nation.
