This is a two-part resource.  The first entitled “Building Blocks” outlines the first documented school desegregation case in the nation and cases in Kansas that were filed prior to Brown v. Board of Education.  It includes dates, photos, circumstances and details of these early cases.  Most people are not aware that there were three such cases filed against the Board of Education of Topeka, prior to Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka.

The second part of the resource is entitled “The Cases” which outlines the five cases consolidated by the U.S. Supreme Court under the heading of Brown v. Board of Education.  It includes dates, photos, circumstances and details of each case.  These consolidated cases on appeal originated from Delaware, Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C.  The ending segment of this resource identifies the legal team and community organizers involved in each case.  The back cover shows the Supreme Court docket and an excerpt from the court opinion.
