Brown Foundation Academic Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to minority students entering their junior year of college. Scholarships are $1,000 per year for two academic years (i.e., $500 per semester). Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be admitted to a teacher education program. Confirmation of their acceptance is required by the date of the award.
- Be enrolled at an institution of higher education with an accredited program in teacher education.
- Be enrolled at least half-time as defined by the higher education institution of attendance.
- Have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
- Submit two recommendations: one from a teacher, counselor, or other school official and one from a person familiar with the applicant's skills and abilities who is not a family member.

The Foundation received 60 applications for the 2006 award cycle.
Danelle Joy Anderson
Flagstaff, AZ
Ms. Anderson will graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University in the Fall of 2007. After graduation she plans to go back to her home on the Navajo Reservation and teach history.
Elmira Ratliff
Greenwood, MS
Ms. Ratliff is an English Education major at Alcorn State University. She plans to pursue a Master's degree and become a secondary English instructor in her home state of Mississippi.
