Program Featuring: A Film Screening

The story is set in Kansas during the early 1900s. A teenaged Native American boy is taken from his family and forced to attend a distant Indian “training” school to assimilate into White society. When he escapes to return to his family, Franklin a bounty hunter of Cherokee descent, is hired to find and return him to the institution. Franklin, a former Indian scout for the U.S. Army, has renounced his Native heritage and has adopted the White Man’s way of life, believing it is the only way for Indians to survive. Along the way, a tragic incident spurs Franklin’s longtime nemesis, the famous “Indian Fighter” Sheriff Henry McCoy to pursue both Franklin and the boy.

Kevin Willmott is a screenwriter, film maker, playwright, actor and activist. He grew up in Junction City, Kansas, received his BA in drama from Marymount College and after graduation worked as a peace and civil rights activist, fighting for the rights of the poor. He helped create two Catholic Worker shelters for the homeless and pressed for integration of several long-standing institutions. Kevin attended New York University for graduate studies and Tisch School of the Arts. Receiving several writing awards and his Master of Fine Arts graduate degree in dramatic writing. He has written for television as well as producing numerous movies including his breakout film CSA: The Confederate States of America. His first film made decades ago about his hometown of Junction City, Kansas featured actors Martin Sheen and music legend Issac Hayes.
